DIRECTOR CORPORATE AFFAIRS

The Guyana Post Office Corporation is seeking a competent, motivated and dynamic individual to fill the position of Director Corporate Affairs

Objective

To provide legal advice on legal issues judicial and other matters with legal implications arising from the performance of the various functions of the Corporation.  To effectively and efficiently resolve all disputes with business associates: providing expert advice relevant to the functioning of the Corporation and ensuring that accurate information is disseminated to key executives on behalf of the Board of directors.

                                                                                                                                                                                                              Principle Accountabilities

  • Address Legal & Court matters for the Corporation
  • Organise appropriate briefings with officers involved in court matters
  • Conduct relevant research into particular matters under review
  • Research and review all laws, regulations and guidelines which are likely to impact the Corporation business activities and any litigation affecting the Corporation
  • Provide advice to the Postmaster General and Board of Directors regarding all legal issues
  • Give advice on the engagement of external attorneys and liaise with and accompany them and also staff members in the representation of the Corporationโ€™s interest in the Courts of Law
  • Liaise with the relevant Agencies (Government and Private) in relation to questions, concerns and queries on behalf of the Corporation
  • Serve as Secretary to the Board of Directors
  • Prepare and circulate minutes of monthly board meetings
  • Communicate decisions emanating from board and sub-committee meetings with specific directives from the Chairman and Postmaster General to the Post Offices/Departments
  • Monitor the implementation of all decisions taken at the board and maintain records of the same
  • Administer all contractual arrangement (tenancy, suppliers, mail, buildings & contractors) on behalf of the Corporation 

Requisite Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive knowledge and application of laws
  • Strong Leadership and analytical skills
  • Interpersonal skill

Qualification and Experience:

  • LLB Degree in Legal Studies
  • A minimum of three (3) yearsโ€™ experience in a Legal environment; advising clients on legal matters, preparing cases and conducting research
  • Computer Literacy in Microsoft Applications
