Commemorative Stamp launched to mark 55 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between Guyana and the Dominican Republic

On Friday, the Guyana Post Office Corporation, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, officially released a commemorative stamp celebrating 55 years of diplomatic relations between Guyana and the Dominican Republic.

The Co-operative Republic of Guyana and the Dominican Republic formally established diplomatic relations on 19 October 1970, making this year a milestone of fifty-five years of partnership.

To mark this momentous occasion, the Government of Guyana launched a stamp symbolizing the enduring friendship and dynamic collaboration between the two nations. The design features the coat of arms of Guyana and the Dominican Republic set against the colours of their respective flags.

Guyana and the Dominican Republic now stand at a pivotal point where opportunities to deepen and expand bilateral cooperation are greater than ever. In recent years, both countries have signed several agreements across key sectors, including energy, air services, tourism, trade and investment and oil and gas, aimed at advancing their respective national development goals.

This strong partnership is founded on shared values, mutual respect, and trust, guided by the principles of international law, including the United Nations Charter: the sovereign equality of states, inviolability of frontiers, territorial integrity, peaceful resolution of disputes, and cooperation among nations.

A framed first day cover and a commemorative paperweight were presented by Postmaster General Ms. Karen Brown to Ambassador George Talbot, who subsequently handed them over to the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Guyana, His Excellency Ernesto Torres-Pereyra, in the presence of Peggy McLennan, Director of the Department of the Americas and other officials from the Embassy of the Dominican Republic.
