The Guyana Post Office Corporation in collaboration with Guyana Defence Force recently launched a commemorative stamp that pays tribute the life and contributions of Captain Roland Dasilva at Camp Ayanganna.

The stamp is the Guyana Post Office Corporation’s first release of the year, and it is available to the general public starting today.

Acting Postmaster General, Tiffani Williams presented the official First Day Cover to Captain Dasilvaโ€™s wife, Jennifer in the presence of their children, Tina and Roland.

Present at the unveiling ceremony were Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d), the Honourable Mark Phillips, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Brigadier Omar Khan, National Security Advisor Captain Gerry Gouveia, Former Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force Major General (Retโ€™d) Norman McLean and other members of the Guyana Defence Force.

Captain Roland Dasilvaโ€™s aviation career spanned from 1953 to 2006. His strategic brilliance, operational prowess and unwavering dedication to aviation landed him many significant achievements and recognition as an enduring figure in Guyanese and international aviation history.

Among his stalwart achievements was his role in intercepting critical information which led to strategic actions that played a pivotal role in quashing the Rupununi Uprising in 1969. As a result, he earned the distinction of being the sole Guyanese to be awarded the “Caciqueโ€™s Crown of Valour.”

Captain Dasilva achieved another milestone by being the first Guyanese to join the British Guyana Airways in September 1957. Additionally, he earned the distinction of becoming the first Guyanese to hold a Commercial and Instruments Rating Pilotโ€™s License in 1961.
